On May 22, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 Amrit Bharat stations across 18 Indian states from Bikaner, Rajasthan. This initiative is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aiming to modernise and upgrade railway stations nationwide to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.

What are Amrit Bharat Stations?

According to the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB’s) press release, “The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term initiative by Indian Railways aimed at modernising over 1,275 railway stations across the country. This redevelopment will take place in phases, based on the specific needs and size of each station.”

Amrit Bharat Stations Key Features

The scheme, as detailed by the PIB, aims to make railway stations cleaner, more efficient, and easier to use. Stations will now feature upgraded waiting halls, toilets, lifts, escalators, and improved entry-exit points. Special emphasis is being placed on the inclusion of facilities for Divyangjans (persons with disabilities) under the government’s ‘Accessible India Campaign’.

    • Gujarat: Samakhiali, Morbi, Hapa, Jam Wanthali, Kanalus Junction, Okha, Mithapur, Rajula Junction, Sihor Junction, Palitana, Mahuva, Jam Jodhpur, Limbdi, Derol, Karamsad, Utran, Kosamba Junction, Dakor
    • Haryana: Mandi Dabwali
    • Himachal Pradesh: Baijnath Paprola
    • Jharkhand: Sankarpur, Rajmahal, Govindpur Road
    • Karnataka: Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road, Dharwad

According to the PIB, the idea behind this scheme dates back to 2021 when Gandhinagar railway station became the first to be modernised, complete with a five-star hotel and updated facilities. That same year, Rani Kamalapati (formerly Habibganj) station was also inaugurated in its revamped form.
