Srinagar-Jammu Vande Bharat Train Number, Features, Timings, And Routes: The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir has been one of the most exciting developments in Indian rail travel. For years, travellers between Srinagar and Jammu relied mainly on road journeys that could take 6-8 hours or more, often affected by weather conditions and landslides in the mountains. The route between Srinagar and Katra was inaugurated on June 6, 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and began commercial operations the next day. Indian Railway officials announced late Tuesday (February 24, 2026) that the March 1 launch of the Srinagar-Jammu Vande Bharat Express has been postponed due to “unavoidable circumstances”.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said, “Due to some unavoidable circumstances, the notification programme of Vande Bharat’s extension from March 1 has been put on hold by the Railway Board till further advice. It is notified for the information of all concerned that train Vande Bharat Express will be extended up to Jammu Tawi from March 1 from Katra.”

Srinagar-Jammu Vande Bharat Train route runs along the stunning landscape of the Himalayas, passing through tunnels, valleys and bridges including the iconic Chenab Bridge, currently the tallest railway arch bridge in the world. “Press Information Bureau (PIB) highlights, The toughest challenge in the project was to give foundation support to World's highest arch bridge (i.e 359 m) on Chenab River. It was achieved by a rock bolting method using 30,000 tonnes of steel. The other main challenge was to build India’s first cable-stayed bridge on the Anji River. The two other bridges on the section are Reasi Bridge and Bakkal Bridges.”
