'India Fifth Largest Economy In World,' Says PM Modi At 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas In Bhubaneswar

PM Modi on Thursday launched the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and applauded India's rapid economic development over the last 10 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Thursday, underlining the fact that India has gained significant global recognition over the past decade, with other countries now looking up to it. During the event, PM Modi also launched and explored four exhibitions and promotional stalls set up by various central and state government ministries and departments.

PM Modi On Mahakumbh In Prayagraj

During the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 inauguration ceremony, PM Modi said, “In just a few days, the Mahakumbh will start in Prayagraj. The festivals of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu are also coming up. There is a joyful atmosphere everywhere. For us, it was on this day in 1915 when Mahatma Gandhi came back to India after a long time abroad.”

PM Modi On India’s Commendable Economic growth

PM Modi also applauded the government’s efforts for the economic development in India, “In the last 10 years, over 25 crore people have been lifted from poverty. India is also now the fifth largest economy in the world, and soon it will assume the third place, he said.

The Prime Minister also stated that India has no shortage of skilled and talented youths. “India’s rapid skill and economic development is being noticed around the world. The world today listens to India, which not only presents its own views but those of the global south,” he said.

“We are not only the mother of democracy, but democracy is part of our lives,” he added.

Emphasising India's growing global role due to its achievements and prospects, PM Modi said “Today's India not only firmly asserts its own point but also strongly amplifies the voice of the Global South”.

The Ministry of External Affairs and the Government of Odisha are jointly hosting the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas from January 8-10. The convention's theme, ‘Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,’ showcases the pivotal role of the Indian diaspora in shaping India's growth and development.
