India’s First ATM On Train

Indian Railways have launched an ATM inside a train, allowing passengers on the Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express to conveniently withdraw cash during their journey. This new service was introduced by Central Railways to make travel more convenient for passengers who need cash during the journey.

The ATM is provided by a private bank and is placed well within an air-conditioned coach. It’s installed in a small cubicle towards the back of the coach, in an area which was previously occupied by a temporary pantry. For added security and convenience, the cubicle is equipped with a shutter door.

About The ATM Service

The coach of the train was modified at the Manmad Railway Workshop to accommodate the ATM. This service is available in the Panchavati Express that runs daily between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Manmad Junction in Nashik. The railway authorities are currently monitoring the performance of the ATM service and network connectivity along the entire route. The travel duration of the train stands around 4 hours and 35 minutes. After successful trials on this service, more ATMs will be installed by Indian Railways to make cash withdrawal easier for the passengers. The passengers will be able to use the ATM to order chequebooks and receive account statements.
