Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the project, which was proposed by a former Member of Parliament and developed with help from experts. Its main aim is to add an element of innovation to Mumbai’s infrastructure while offering a fun experience to commuters.
The magic happens because of the rumble strips, grooves cut into the road surface at precisely measured intervals. When a vehicle travels over these strips at around 70–80 km/h, the tyres’ contact with the grooves creates vibrations. Those vibrations turn into sound waves that, when arranged just right, form the melody of ‘Jai Ho’ inside the car.
If a driver goes too fast or too slow, the tune may sound distorted. To help drivers enjoy the effect safely, signboards have been placed at various points before the musical stretch, including inside the tunnel, so motorists can adjust their speed in advance.
