Recently, while promoting Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Pooja Hegde said, “In a Salman Khan film, to be given this opportunity, where the girl is so integral in the story was something that was so unique and so good for me.”
The actor pointed out that Salman Khan’s films are watched by the masses, and she wanted her films to be watched by a huge number of people as that is what makes an actor a star. Hegde has spent a decade in the Indian film industry. She has delivered hits with actors like Allu Arjun from the Tamil and Telugu industries. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan would help Hegde reach her followers in the Hindi-belt regions.
From the trailer of the film, it can be seen that Khan’s character will be seen in action. Much like his other movies, his heroine, played by Hegde, would give him a reason to fight, justify his action and play true to his part to emerge as the hero.
The storyline might seem different, but the gist of Khan’s upcoming films remains a mirror reflection of his last films, including Jai Ho, Dabangg, Wanted, etc. In all of these blockbuster hits, female leads were in supporting roles rather than being given an ‘integral’ character to play.
Here is a look at the duration for which the actresses appeared in Salman Khan’s hits.
Race 3
Race 3 was an action-packed film, and its storyline revolved around the male leads, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Jacqueline Fernandez and Daisy Shah were in supporting roles. They were in the scenes to dance with the heroes, help them out or substantiate their macho-man image.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan
In Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kareena Kapoor Khan played the love interest of Salman Khan. The entire film was about a little mute girl who got stranded in India. Bajrangi Bhaijaan went out of his way to get her safely to her home in Pakistan.
If Kareena’s part is removed from the script, the film still would have stood apart. Her contribution to helping Pawan Kumar (Khan’s character) and Munni was insignificant.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was a high-end drama directed by Sooraj Barjatya. While Khan played a double role in this movie, Sonam Kapoor was his love interest. The crux of the story revolved around getting Prem’s family together.
Kapoor’s role was only to fall in love with Prem’s twin-looking. In the end, she convinces the real prince and lives her fairy tale life. If Kapoor was out of the film, the storyline would not be compromised much. She was present in the scenes where Khan was shown romancing or performing comedy.
Jai Ho
Jai Ho was another thriller film from Khan’s bucket of blockbusters. It had Daisy Shah as the female lead, and Tabu played the role of his sister. Shah’s character was a part of scenes where Khan was supposed to appear as a macho man.
She was his love interest, and there was no other depth to her character. The entire film was about how a good deed creates a ripple effect. If we were to remake the story, Shah’s character is where the scriptwriter could have invested time, but didn't.
Kick
Kick was another film that substantiated Khan’s image as a hero. In this, he was a philanthropist who did not care about earning money as long as he was doing something that was giving him internal satisfaction.
Fernandez played Khan’s lover who fell in love with him, tried to change him, and broke up. Cut to a few years in the future, Khan met her again and used her to find his way into the villain’s party. If Fernandez was not his love interest, we are sure that Khan would have jumped through buildings, defying all the laws in physics, to complete the task and emerge as the messiah.
Wanted
In Wanted, Salman Khan played an undercover cop who fell in love with Ayesha Takia’s character, Jhanvi. She appeared here and there in the film. In one of the scenes, a few goons molested her, and Radhe came to her rescue which made her fall in love with him.
Jhanvi had no role in the plotline of the movie. If she did not come into Radhe’s life, he would have remained an undercover cop and the villain was still defeated in the movie.

Dabangg
Dabangg was one of the highest-grossing films of Salman Khan who played Inspector Chulbul Pandey. It was Sonkashi Sinha’s debut movie as Rajjo. One plotline of the movie was Chulbul met Rajjo, fell in love with her and married her.
Another plotline that was running parallel to was Chulbul trying to find the goon Cheddi Singh, played by Sonu Sood. In the end, he killed him and lived his life happily until the next part.

In all the films, none of the heroines had a crucial role to play except to be Khan’s love interest. In most of them, if the characters of lead actresses get cut out, Khan’s characters would still be the heroes. He would have managed to be the muscle man who would beat the goons, go shirtless and kill the villain.
Khan’s films are most focused on showcasing him as a hero that they have little to no part for heroines. We would like to see how Kisis Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan would be any different. Stay tuned to HerZindagi for more updates.
