Released on March 27, 2025, the movie was declared a blockbuster. However, amidst the controversy it has witnessed a significant drop in numbers. L2: Empuraan Day 7 Box Office Collection
According to the industry tracker website Sacnilk, “L2: Empuraan minted around Rs 5.50 crore, which made the total collection to Rs 84.40 crore. The movie collected Rs 21 crore on its opening day, twice the previous record for any Malayalam movie. However, it witnessed a drop of 45% on its second day, grossing Rs 11.5 crore. The movie had an overall 34.68% Malayalam Occupancy on Wednesday, April 02, 2025.”

The makers of the movie re-edited the scenes after facing backlash over several scenes depicting the 2022 Gujarat riots. Around 2 minutes and eight seconds of the footage were deleted. The edited version started playing in theatres on April 1, 2025. However, the movie has seen a significant decline in box office collection since then.

About L2: Empuraan
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, ‘L2: Empuraan’ is the sequel to the Lucifer franchise. The movie is based on Kerala legislator Stephen Nedumpally, who leads a double life as Khureshi Ab’raam, the leader of a powerful global crime syndicate. Alongside Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the movie features Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nikhat Khan, Sachin Khedekar, and Saikumar Santhosh in significant roles. The film also stars Mohanlal's son Pranav Mohanlal in a cameo role as younger Khureshi Ab'raam. The movie was released in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. Producer Antony Perumbavoor confirmed that the third part of the movie is happening. However, the official announcement is awaited.
