L2 Empuraan Box Office Collection Day 1: Mohanlal's Latest Movie Delivers A Blockbuster Opening

The 2019 Lucifer sequel, L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, was released in theatres on March 27, 2025, across India. L2: Empuraan Day One Box Office Collection

According to the industry tracker website Sacnilk, Mohanlal’s action thriller movie collected Rs 22 crore in India on its opening day. It was released in different languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu. Though it had a pan-Indian approach, the Malayalam version of the movie dominated the box office, followed by Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.

Considering the buzz and strong opening, Ramesh Bala, a film trade analyst, took to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) to post about the opening. He wrote, “UNSTOPPABLE MASS ACTION! #L2E #Empuraan has earned glowing reviews from top media and critics – a true BLOCKBUSTER!”

According to Sacnilk, L2: Empuraan had a strong occupancy of 61.02% in all Malayalam shows, with regions, such as Kozhikode and Kochi dominating the shows with 90%.

Another film trade analyst, Taran Adarsh's 'X' post reads, "'EMPURAAN' TAKES A HISTORIC START ACROSS KERALA... The highly anticipated biggie, #L2E: #Empuraan, has taken a record-breaking start across #Kerala... #Thiruvananthapuram, #Kochi, #Kozhikode, #Kottayam, #Thrissur, #Palakkad – theatres are witnessing packed shows, signalling an earth-shattering opening.”

About L2: Empuraan Movie

Starring Mohanlal in the lead role, L2: Empuraan is the sequel to the 2019 Lucifer. It’s a socio-political drama where Mohanlal’s character takes centre stage, alongside Prithviraj Sukumar, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sachin Khedekar. The movie received a UA 16+ rating from the censor board and is approved for a runtime of 180 minutes. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and A Subaskaran in collaboration, the movie is expected to be a blockbuster and shatter all Malayalam movie records.
