Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 16, 2024, arrived in Ahmedabad for his inaugural visit to Gujarat, where he flagged off India’s first Vande Metro service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad, along with other Vande Bharat trains. According to a Western Railway spokesperson, this service provides a more affordable and quicker alternative compared to intercity non-AC or AC buses. However, shortly before the inauguration, the Railway Ministry announced that the Vande Metro service would now be known as the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. - According to the Western Railways, the Bhuj to Ahmedabad Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will have “12 air-conditioned coaches with centrally controlled automatic sliding doors, modular interiors, continuous LED lighting, toilets with vacuum evacuation, route map indicators, panoramic windows, CCTV, phone charging facilities.”
- The new rail system will drastically cut the travel time between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. The rail line is expected to increase connectivity between Bhuj and Ahmedabad.
- The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail has a seating capacity of 1,150 passengers and can accommodate an additional 2,058 standing passengers. It is equipped with cushioned seats, modern amenities, automatic sliding doors, and dual engines at both ends for enhanced efficiency.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway stated that the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will be more cost-effective and affordable compared to bus services. A non-AC bus fare from Bhuj to Gandhidham is Rs 110 and an AC bus costs Rs 140, while the Bhuj to Ahmedabad journey on the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail is priced at just Rs 75.
Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Timings
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services from Ahmedabad to Bhuj are set to commence on September 17, 2024, with the return service from Bhuj to Ahmedabad starting on September 18, 2024
As per Western Railways, the Ahmedabad-Bhuj Vande Metro will depart from Ahmedabad daily at 17:30 hours, except on Saturdays, and will reach Bhuj at 23:10 hours the same day.
The Bhuj-Ahmedabad Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will depart from Bhuj daily at 05:05 am, except on Sundays, and will arrive in Ahmedabad at 10:50 am the same day.

Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Route
Vineet Abhishek, CPRO, Western Railway said, “The train covers 11 stations on the route between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. While a non-AC bus charges Rs 110 from Bhuj to Gandhidham, an AC bus fare costs Rs 140 for the same distance. However, one can avail of this journey at Rs 75 through this train, which is cheaper. While a bus takes at least 2 hours to reach Gandhidham, the NBRR takes only 55 minutes.” (5 Haunted Railway Stations In India)
