How Rajasthan Has Become The Favourite Destination To Shoot OTT Films And Web Series

Rajasthan’s golden dunes, arid landscape, vibrant markets and forts add a rustic charm and authenticity to any scenes of films and series shot there. Take a look at the recent OTT films and series that have traces of the state’s culture.

Rajasthan, The Land of Kinds, has always been known for its rich history, giant forts, lip-smacking cuisine, eloquent palaces and golden sand dunes. It is among the top tourist destinations in India.

The state’s arid landscape and vibrant markets have widely been featured in many Indian films. However, we are amazed to see its growing popularity as a shooting destination for many OTT films and web series.

Not only many of the latest movies and series released on Netflix, Disney+Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video have been shot in various cities and villages of Rajasthan but also have characters speaking the native language.

'Mimi'

Released in 2021 on Netflix, 'Mimi' was one of the few films that bagged praises during the second year of lockdown. Starring Kriti Sanon as the lead, the story revolved around an aspiring actor who chose to become a surrogate to a foreign couple struggling with infertility.

The film was extensively shot in Churu, Rajasthan. You can find the reflection of the culture of the state in the way the characters were dressed and the houses they were living in.

'Aarya'

The first season of ‘Aarya’ came out on Disney+Hotstar in 2020. Watching Sushmita Sen as the lead actor made her fans go gaga. The series is currently in the making of its third season.

It was shot in various locations in Rajasthan, including Jaipur and Udaipur. One can even spot popular locations of the two cities. The culture of the state is also reflected in the intricate jewellery that actors have worn in various scenes.

Sen has resumed shooting after recovering from a heart attack. The fans are waiting to see what season three has in store.

'Hit: The First Case'

‘Hit: The First Case’ is a 2022 film released on Netflix. It stars Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra. When Rao sets on a spree to solve the case, viewers get to see villages and parts of Rajasthan in the film.

The film is based on a Telugu crime thriller in which a police officer tries to find a missing girl. While solving the case, he also struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

'Dahaad'

Starring Vijay Varma and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles, 'Dahaad' is the latest series released on Amazon Prime Video. It is about a small village in Rajasthan where around 27 women go missing.

Sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati investigates the case only to find dead women in bathrooms. The series has bagged positive reviews.

'Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo'

'Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo' is a series released on Disney+Hotstar in 2023. Starring Dimple Kapadia and Radhika Madan in lead roles, the first season was about setting the premise around the illegal business of Rani Baa and why she started it in the first place.

All the actors in the series have impressed the audience, especially Kapadia, who played the role of a fierce woman. Most characters donned traditional clothes of Rajasthan and had conversations in the local language. The first season has left its fans intrigued because of the cliffhanger. We cannot wait to see what happens next.
