Finished your binge of 'Chiraiya' on JioHotstar? If so, your head is probably still spinning. It is incredibly rare to find a series that digs into toxic family politics and female empowerment without watering things down. We are so used to television glossing over the genuinely dark realities of life. So, when a show actually drags issues like domestic abuse and marital rape straight out of the shadows, it leaves a massive mark. Honestly, it just makes you crave more of that unfiltered, uncomfortable truth on screen.
So, if you are looking for something with that same gritty, unapologetic vibe, we have put together a list of six Bollywood films you can stream right now. They deal with domestic abuse straight up, without sugarcoating the reality.

Jasmeet K Reen really nailed it with ‘Darlings’. It gives us this incredibly dark, almost satirical look into a toxic marriage. The brilliant thing is that it doesn't just bash men for the sake of it; instead, it shines a massive spotlight on how normal casual sexism is in our daily lives. You see neighbours hearing the abuse and just ignoring it. The film is fundamentally about the silence that keeps patriarchy going, and honestly, the whole dynamic feels ridiculously real.

This one is absolutely gut-wrenching, but you have to watch it. ‘Parched’ does not shy away from the horrific things women in deeply patriarchal setups go through. We are talking about marital rape, brutal domestic abuse, child marriage, and the deadly dowry nightmare. But it is not all misery—following these four women from Rajasthan as they find the courage to fight for their basic rights is massively inspiring.

Taapsee Pannu is phenomenal in this lead role. ‘Thappad’ is basically a cinematic masterclass in setting boundaries against domestic violence. The story starts with a picture-perfect marriage, but everything shatters when the husband slaps his wife at a house party. The film brilliantly dismantles the excuse of ‘It was just one time.’ It proves that a single slap changes absolutely everything around them.

Directed by Jag Mundhra, this gripping film stars Aishwarya Rai and is based on the terrifying true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia. She ultimately ended up killing her husband, who was intensely abusive and a rapist, simply because it was the only way she could survive and save her own life. It is a really heavy watch, but it tells such a crucial story about survival and the justice system.

Luv Ranjan usually gets a lot of flak for the sexist undertones in his ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ films, but he totally surprised everyone with this 2013 release. Teaming up with Nushrratt Bharuccha and Kartik Aaryan, he actually made a really sensitive film about a young woman trapped against her will in a fiercely abusive marriage. It shows a completely different, much deeper side to his filmmaking.

You simply cannot do a list about women fighting back without including this absolute classic. Rekha performs of a lifetime here. We watch her character, Aarti, go from being a naive, abused victim to an unstoppable force of nature. For decades, she has been an absolute icon for women wanting to walk away from toxic partners and serve up a properly befitting lesson.
