A horrifying case of sexual exploitation targeting Hindu female students in Bhopal has sparked nationwide outrage, with investigations revealing shocking similarities to the infamous 1992 Ajmer rape scandal. The accused allegedly lured, drugged, raped, and blackmailed victims while pressuring them to convert to Islam, a pattern authorities are calling a ‘systematic racket.’
Bhopal Gang Rape and ‘Love Jihad’ Case
According to Amar Ujala, the gang, led by Farhan Khan, befriended female students from a private engineering college, sexually assaulted them, recorded the acts, and used the videos to blackmail victims. The issue came to light when a 19-year-old survivor filed a police complaint, accusing Farhan and his associate Sahil of rape and blackmail.
A victim from Betul registered an FIR on April 17, 2025, at the Baghsewania police station, describing a traumatic experience that reportedly began in 2022. She alleged that "Farhan Khan lured her into a 'love trap' and subsequently took her to his friend Hameed's residence in Jahangirabad where she was raped." According to her statement, a video of the assault was recorded and used to blackmail her into continued exploitation. The victim also reported that Farhan used similar tactics to victimise her sister, and that she decided to go to the police after discovering videos of other girls on Farhan's phone.
Religious Coercion and Brutality
Victims reported being pressured to convert to Islam and marry their attackers under threats of leaked videos. India TV News reported that two BTech sisters were separately raped by Farhan and Mohammad Ali, with one forced to eat non-vegetarian food against her religious beliefs.
A minor was allegedly lured by accused Shahrukh and raped by his associate Ayan, with the assault recorded.
According to police statements quoted by multiple publications, one of the accused, Sahil, operated a dance class and allegedly used it to meet potential victims. "Sahil used to take the women for a ride on his bike, take them to pubs and hookah lounges and introduce them to other people in his gang," police said, according to the report.
Police investigations suggest that victims were sometimes drugged before being assaulted, with videos of the incidents later used for blackmail purposes.

Police Investigation
DCP Zone-2 Sanjay Agarwal confirmed the serious nature of the allegations, stating, "A zero FIR has been registered in Bagsevania police station on the complaint of a minor victim. Action has been initiated under POCSO and rape sections. Blackmailing has been confirmed through the video, and the SIT is investigating it thoroughly so that all the culprits can be arrested."
The police official drew a comparison to the notorious 1992 Ajmer rape case, "where a gang similarly entrapped female students, created compromising videos, and used them for blackmail and further exploitation."
Cases have reportedly been registered under multiple laws, including the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), IT Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.
Police have confirmed three arrests: Farhan, Sahil, and Saad. According to Amar Ujala, investigations continue to determine if more individuals were involved in the alleged crimes.
The New Indian Express reported that Special Investigation Teams (SITs) have been formed, with cyber experts tracing digital evidence.
