GOAT Box Office Collection: Thalapathy Vijay's Film Sets New Records with Massive Opening

Thalapathy Vijay and director Venkat Prabhu's latest film, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), is performing impressively at the box office. After a successful week in theaters, the spy thriller is on track to reach Rs 200 crore (nett) domestically. Early trade reports indicate that GOAT is maintaining strong numbers and is anticipated to see an uptick over the weekend.

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), released on Thursday, the film earned an estimated ₹43 crore nett in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film's impressive opening has garnered significant attention, as it was released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, attracting audiences across multiple regions.

GOAT has surpassed the opening day figures of other notable films, such as Indian 2, which earned ₹25.6 crore on its first day. However, it still trails behind Vijay's previous blockbuster, Leo, which made ₹63 crore nett on its opening day.

As per Sacnilk, the Tamil version of GOAT achieved an impressive occupancy rate of 76.23%. In Chennai, the film had a staggering 99 per cent occupancy, with 1,003 shows scheduled. Bengaluru also saw strong numbers, with 1,140 shows and a 60 per cent occupancy rate.

The film's domestic gross has been reported at ₹55 crore, and the worldwide collections are anticipated to exceed ₹100 crore on its opening day. This projection is bolstered by strong bookings, which reportedly surpassed ₹50 crore before the film's release.

Just a day before its release, GOAT received clearance in Tamil Nadu for 9 AM shows, allowing for five screenings throughout the day, with the last show ending around 2 AM. However, this special permission was granted for just one day, and similar privileges will not be extended for the upcoming weekend.

Vijay's Upcoming Transition

GOAT is expected to be Vijay's penultimate film, as the actor has hinted at a shift toward a political career after completing his next project, Thalapathy 69, directed by H Vinoth. The excitement surrounding GOAT raises questions about whether this enthusiasm will translate into significant box office numbers. In 2023, Vijay had two releases—Leo, which was a major success, and Varisu, which faced tough competition and earned ₹26.5 crore on its opening day against Ajith's Thunivu.

Industry experts predict that GOAT's collections will likely increase over the weekend, although surpassing the opening day numbers of Leo may be challenging. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film features a star-studded cast, including Prashanth, Sneha, Mohan, and Prabhu Deva.

The film's strong performance at the box office reflects Vijay's enduring popularity and the anticipation surrounding his films. As per reports, the film's opening day success positions it as a strong contender in the Tamil film industry, potentially paving the way for even greater achievements in the coming days.
