Assi Movie: Kani Kusruti on Acting in Trauma

Before the film’s release, Kani Kusruti spoke about acting in ‘Assi’, where she played the role of a rape survivor. In an interview with PTI, she talked about the emotional toll of the role and the challenges that actors face when they try to act out real trauma.

“I don't think one can tap into the trauma (of a survivor) exactly,” she said.

In the same interview, she explained that while she tried to approach her character Parima with honesty and sensitivity, she did not immerse herself so deeply that it would affect her mental wellbeing.

“As an actor, we tried to go closest to it, and there can be moments you are probably in it because you are almost believing this has happened to you. But I'm not an actor who would fully go in like that, (because) then it will kind of affect you. I don't tend to do that,” she added.

Her thoughtful approach appears to have resonated with audiences, many of whom have highlighted her restrained yet powerful performance.

According to media reports, ‘Assi’ is expected to premiere on ZEE5 after completing its theatrical run. Several reports suggest April 17, 2026, as the tentative streaming date. However, the producers have not yet confirmed the official OTT release schedule.
