Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha have joined hands once again for yet another socially motivated courtroom drama in ‘Assi’. The pair, who have previously teamed up for ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad’, are yet again trying to ignite a dialogue on a relevant topic. But while the film may have garnered some attention from critics for its content, it has certainly failed to do the same at the box office.
Five days into its theatrical run, ‘Assi’ has failed to gather momentum and remains under the ₹5 crore mark in India.
As per the Sacnilk report, ‘Assi’ managed to earn only around ₹0.04 crore on Day 5 (live data at the time of reporting). With this, the film’s total stands at ₹4.99 crore after five days.

On the first Monday, ‘Assi’ earned around ₹0.75 crore, as reported by early estimates from Sacnilk. This was a drastic fall of over 53% from Sunday’s collection. The sudden drop suggested that the movie was relying heavily on weekend audiences and could not hold its ground on weekdays.
The occupancy levels in theaters in major cities were low, and the movie could not compete with other major releases.

As per Sacnilk report, here is the detailed day-wise breakdown:
The movie saw a small increase on the first Saturday and a consistent Sunday. But the expected decline on weekdays came as a shock on Monday. The sharp decline suggests that audience interest has dwindled rapidly. Without a significant turnaround, crossing even the ₹10 crore mark may prove difficult in its theatrical run.

‘Assi’ is directed by Anubhav Sinha and stars Taapsee Pannu as a lawyer who defends a sexual assault survivor. This is the third film that the actor and director have worked on together, after
‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad’.
The star-studded cast includes Revathi, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Naseeruddin Shah, and Kani Kusruti in key roles. Kani Kusruti plays the role of the sexual assault survivor, around whom the entire story unfolds.
Although the subject matter of the film is serious and relevant, the box office performance of the film so far indicates a lukewarm reaction at the box office.
