One of the biggest challenges I faced during the initial months post-delivery was putting my baby to sleep. Most days she woke up minutes after falling asleep. Once awake, she got cranky and making her sleep again was a big task. This continued for a long time and none of us had a peaceful sleep.
My mother-in-law's tried and tested tricks and some videos online helped me put the baby to sleep quickly. I mastered the art over weeks. So, I thought of putting all the tips and tricks here which will help you put your fussy baby to sleep.
Use A Pacifier
This one is a fail-safe trick to make your baby sleep quickly. Once you have nursed the baby, offer a pacifier. The pacifier will help soothe the baby and make them fall asleep. According to a study, pacifiers help in calming the baby at night and also reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). When the baby is in deep sleep, take out the pacifier. Don't put the pacifier (using pacifiers for baby) back in their mouth if it falls out on its own.

Rock The Baby
During the initial one to three months, most babies are unable to sleep on their own. Rocking can help them get sleepy. I mostly used the car seat which could also be used as a rocker to make my baby sleep during nights. Making the baby lay on the side in your arms and then rocking them also helps them sleep quickly.

Dim The Lights
Feed the baby to sleep in a dark and quiet room. Use dim lights if required. According to a study, dim lights or no light helps the baby sleep for longer hours. I noticed this for myself. My baby slept quickly when I kept the lights of my room dim.
Give Them A Leg Massage
My mother shared this tried and tested formula. She shared that babies get tired playing all day and can't sleep because of the same. Giving them a quick leg massage relaxes them and helps them sleep quickly. On a personal note, I do it everyday. I take some oil and rub my palms to warm it a little and then use it for the leg massage.
