Yuzvendra Chahal-Dhanashree Verma Officially Divorced: A Timeline Of Their Legal Proceedings

Under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, a family court can only consider a mutual divorce petition after a mandatory six-month waiting period. Yuzvendra Chahal And Dhanashree Verma Officially Divorced: The Bombay High Court's Intervention

In a recent decision, the Bombay High Court overruled a family court ruling that had denied the request to waive the statutory six-month cooling-off period. However, the High Court took a different stance in this case, acknowledging the fact that Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma had been living separately since June 2022.

The court directed the Bandra Magistrate Court to conclude the divorce proceedings swiftly, citing Yuzvendra Chahal’s upcoming commitments with the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a critical factor by March 20, 2025.The cricketer will be playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, with the season beginning on March 22, 2025, and the team's first match scheduled for March 25, 2025, against Gujarat Titans.

The Bombay High Court directed, “As petitioner 1 (Chahal) is participant of IPL, learned counsel informs that he may not be available from March 21, the learned judge family court is requested to decide petition by tomorrow.”

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will begin on March 22, 2025, with the grand final set to take place on May 25, 2025.

Yuzvendra Chahal And Dhanashree Verma's Divorce Alimony Agreement

An essential aspect of this divorce case has been the alimony agreement reached between the two parties. As per the mediation process, Yuzvendra Chahal agreed to pay Rs 4.75 crore in alimony to Dhanashree Verma. However, during the proceedings, it was revealed that Chahal had only made a partial payment of Rs 2.37 crore at the time of the hearing. The court also reviewed a report from a marriage counsellor, which indicated that he had not fully complied with the terms set out in the agreement, but the matter was ultimately settled.

Justice Madhav Jamdar, who presided over the case, ruled that the second installment of the alimony payment could be paid after the divorce was finalised, allowing for a more immediate conclusion to the case.
