Somy Ali's Bold Move To Bollywood
At 16, Somy Ali moved to India to pursue her dream of becoming an actress in the Hindi film industry, motivated by her desire to marry her teenage crush, Salman Khan. Between 1991-1998, she acted in ten Hindi films, establishing herself as a notable figure in Bollywood at that time.
During her AMA, Somy admitted, “I didn’t go there to act; it was a silly crush,” reflecting on her starry-eyed decision to move to Mumbai, as per Hindustan Times.

Somy dated Salman Khan from 1991-1999 and later alleged that he verbally and physically abused her during their relationship. This experience motivated her to establish the organisation ‘No More Tears.’
During her AMA session, when asked whether Khan was a good person, Ali gave a cryptic response that suggested deeper issues, stating, “If walls could talk! Forced abortions! Wait for my novel.” This remark sparked widespread speculation about the troubling revelations she intends to disclose.
Ali's reasons for leaving the film industry were just as shocking. She revealed that she departed after experiencing “physical and verbal” abuse and discovering Khan’s involvement with another woman, widely believed to be Aishwarya Rai. After this realisation, she chose to focus on her education and moved on from Bollywood, as per NDTV.
A particular moment that struck a chord with readers was when Ali made a stark comparison, saying, “I think Ted Bundy had better manners than Salman,” underscoring the resentment and pain she still harbours from her past experiences.

Following her breakup with Salman Khan, Somy returned to the United States and resumed her education. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. In addition to her psychology degree, she also pursued studies in filmmaking, direction, screenwriting, and editing. In 2004, she completed a degree in broadcast journalism.
