'The Royals' Didn't Disappoint but Bhumi Pednekar Did: How Nora Fatehi Beats Her At Her Own Game

Glamour and script come together on screen for Netflix’s ‘The Royals’ featuring Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Nora Fatehi, and other prominent actors. But did Fatehi beat Pednekar at her own game this time? Find out with this detailed review.

In the shimmering spectacle that was ‘The Royals,’ a visual feast of opulence, intrigue, and drama awaits you! While I enjoyed the Netflix series to a great extent, there were some spots where it went off.

Drenched In Drama And Decadence

Set against the background of opulence, secrecy, and scandal, ‘The Royals’ hits all the right spots, drama, romance, and twists that will keep you hooked till the end. Everything from the aesthetics to the emotionally charged narrative arcs, the production glistened with grandeur. Every corridor, costume, and close-up was steeped in elegance, drama, and authenticity, which made for a visually arresting experience for me.

Bhumi’s Missed Opportunity

At the heart of the series stands ‘Sophia,’ played by Bhumi Pednekar. Unfortunately, while the role was sculpted with nuance and fire, Bhumi’s portrayal felt extremely underwhelming. Her delivery lacked a commanding gravitas which is expected from a character so pivotal. One thing was very clear that the brilliance of the writing carried ‘Sophia’ further than Pednekar could. Despite her lukewarm performance, the character’s strength allowed the role to retain its impact, making it one of the rare moments of screen where penmanship outshines performance.

Nora Fatehi Takes The Stage From Bhumi With Unbothered and Unmatched Energy

Nora Fatehi’s character, Princess Ayesha, and performance were both regal, radiant, and ruthlessly on-point! Where Bhumi faltered, Nora flourished. Their separate ball dances with Ishaan Khatter’s character, Aviraaj Singh, comes to mind. Fatehi wasn’t merely playing a role but commanding her frames with an intoxicating cocktail of poise and presence.

Supporting Cast That Basically Carried The ‘Royal Crown’

Special mention must be made of Ishaan Khatter who brought brilliance and emotional depth to the screen. Zeenat Aman’s cameos will definitely remind you of the nostalgic excellence. Meanwhile, the supporting ensemble was a triumph, each actor bringing their A-game. However, it seemed like Sakshi Tanwar took the first couple of episodes to warm up but by the end, she was also matching her co-actors’ talent.

What’s to Come?

From the tastefully curated decor to the crisp direction, the series really brought me a ‘royal’ experience with indulgence which felt like a fresh breath. The plot twist at the end hinted at the possibility of another season and I AM HOOKED!
