Bhumi Pednekar on Pay Disparity in Bollywood
While Bhumi appreciates the progress made in narrowing the male-female pay gap in the industry, she acknowledges that a significant disparity still exists.
“I think things are better than they were earlier, and with every successful female-led movie, this conversation gains more attention,” she said. "However, it would be unfair to say that pay disparity doesn't exist. The gap is extremely wide, but our goal is to improve it for the next generation, and that's what my colleagues and I are striving for."
Bhumi Pednekar on The Representation of Women On-Screen
Bhumi Pednekar notes a significant shift in the cinematic landscape, where women-led movies are gaining traction in the traditionally male-dominated industry.
“We've come a long way!” she exclaimed. “Female-first narratives are now in the spotlight, and I'm proud to have started my career with a purposeful character. My roles in Hindi films have contributed more than just glamour. My colleagues and I are drawn to meaningful characters, and I believe this progress is largely due to the increasing number of female writers, filmmakers and producers. As more women hold positions of power and create female-first stories, this change will continue to deepen.”
