This season of ‘House of the Dragon’ brought us through the brutal Blood and Cheese incident, the crucial battle at Rook's Rest, and introduced new dragonriders amid the fiery Red Sowing. However, as we reach the finale, the outcome may feel somewhat disappointing. Fans expecting the most intense moments of the Targaryen civil war might be let down, as the second season concludes in much the same state as it started. Below, we explore the key moments and clarify the ending of the season finale for you.
'House Of The Dragon' Season 2 Finale Key Moments
Daenerys Targaryen Makes A Cameo Appearance
Before Daemon left Harrenhal for good, he experienced one final vision aided by a witch. In this vision, he saw Daenerys Targaryen and the Night King, along with fleeting images of a three-eyed raven and a dead dragon. The significance of these elements, especially the raven and the dragon, is open to fan interpretation. What stands out is that Daemon now shares the same beliefs as Rhaenyra, who was informed by her father about Aegon the Conqueror's dream and the prophecy. All of these elements are part of a broader narrative.

Ultimately, this vision led Daemon to publicly pledge his loyalty to his wife in front of the sexist lords who expected him to assert his dominance. It marked a significant shift in his character, making him both a feminist and a romantic.
Alicent And Rhaenyra Try To Sign A Treaty
Alicent secretly left King's Landing to visit Rhaenyra at Dragonstone. She proposed that if Rhaenyra helped get her children to safety, she would facilitate Rhaenyra's takeover of the city and the Iron Throne. However, Rhaenyra argues that reclaiming the throne requires killing Alicent’s sons, especially Aegon, the "king." The situation has escalated beyond negotiation or imprisonment. Rhaenyra believes that force is now the only solution to reclaim Westeros. In her desperation to end the conflict, Alicent even suggests that Rhaenyra escapes with her.

Aegon Elopes With Larys?
The former hand of the king, known for his peculiar fondness for feet, suggested taking King Aegon II to Braavos for his safety until the war subsides. He arranged for funds to be moved to the Iron Bank, ensuring that Aegon would be protected from Aemond's impulsive actions and Rhaenyra's advancing forces. By the end of the episode, Aegon has agreed to the plan, and the two are set to cross the Narrow Sea together.
'House Of The Dragon' Season 2 Ending Explained
The Lannister army is mobilising for the Greens, while the Stark forces are heading out for the Blacks. The Riverland armies are prepared, and dragon riders on both sides are gearing up. Tyland’s navy is poised to confront Corlys Velaryon’s fleet. Meanwhile, Otto Hightower has been kidnapped, with the culprit remaining a mystery for 'House of Dragon' season 3.
As Team Black celebrates the addition of three new dragonriders, Aemond is in turmoil. He takes Vhagar on a destructive rampage, resulting in the complete devastation of Sharp Point, with no regard for its inhabitants.
Aemond’s attempt to rally his dragonriders fails when he turns to Helaena, ordering her to join the battle on Dreamfyre. However, as Rhaenyra noted earlier, Helaena has no desire for dragonriding and refuses to harm others. Alicent also wishes to protect the kindest and most gentle member of her family from further suffering.

Despite Aemond's threats, Helaena remains resolute. She uses her prophetic dreams to confront him, first revealing that she knows he is responsible for burning Aegon at Rook's Rest. She then delivers a chilling prophecy: Aegon will reign as king again, while Aemond will meet his end. “You are swallowed up in the Gods Eye,” she tells him, referring to the large lake near Harrenhal.
