Another season of Netflix’s beloved drama is officially in the books, which means fans have endured yet another emotional rollercoaster of small-town gossip, tear-jerking romance, and, of course, massive cliffhangers. The tenth and final episode of Season 7, ‘David and Goliath’, certainly didn't hold back.

From makeups and breakups to founder’s day festivities and shocking medical emergencies, the writers threw everything at the wall. Let’s break down exactly what happened in those final, frantic minutes.

Virgin River Season 7 Ending Explained: Do Mel and Jack Finally Become Parents?

After nine episodes of agonising suspense, we finally get an answer. Yes, Mel and Jack are going to be parents! Marley and the baby’s father confirm they want the couple to adopt their little boy. Because they are young and feeling overwhelmed, the birth parents plan to move to Sacramento for a fresh start. They only ask for one thing: no updates on the baby for a while, just to make the painful separation a bit easier to handle.

But this is ‘Virgin River’, so the joy is short-lived. Marley suddenly develops breathing issues. Mel rushes her to the clinic and discovers a complication called polyhydramnios, an excess of amniotic fluid. To get a proper look at the baby, Mel and Doc have to swallow their pride and use the high-tech equipment at the rival Grace Valley mobile clinic.

The diagnosis is tough. The baby has superoinferior ventricles, a rare congenital heart defect where the ventricles sit on top of each other rather than side-by-side. It means the heart can’t pump blood properly, and the baby will need a series of specialist surgeries. Mel and Jack are given the chance to back out of the adoption, but they refuse. As Mel perfectly puts it, they are the kind of people who do the hard things, and they are betting on their son.

This leads them to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where they meet the specialist surgeon. In a massive twist, the surgeon is Dr Eli Kelly, an arrogant doctor Mel previously fell for during her time with Nurses Beyond Borders. Talk about a spanner in the works.

Virgin River Season 7 Ending Explained: Hope, Doc, and a Shocking Love Triangle

Meanwhile, the Founder’s Day event that Hope has been obsessively planning all season finally happens. With the help of Doc, her ex-husband Roland, and her assistant Tony, Hope pulls off a brilliant celebration, complete with a play detailing the town's history. Riding high on the event's success, she successfully gets the town to sign her petition to ban big businesses like Grace Valley from moving in.

However, the medical emergency with Marley changes everything for Doc. Seeing the Grace Valley mobile clinic save the day makes him realise that Virgin River actually needs high-tech medical investments. When Doc admits his change of heart, Hope feels completely betrayed. She banishes Doc to sleep in his office and storms over to Roland’s house for a chat.

Hope brings her father’s ashes with her, complaining that the men in her life, from Doc to her own dad, always betray her. That’s when Roland drops a massive truth bomb. He reveals that Hope’s dad didn’t leave her the family business because it was failing; rather, he and Roland sold it to save her from crippling debt. To make matters even more complicated, Roland then confesses he still loves her.

Virgin River Season 7 Ending Explained: Brady and Brie’s Tragic Cliffhanger

On a happier note, Brie and Brady finally wake up together after their steamy motorbike reunion. They decide to hit the reset button on their relationship, treating it like they are dating for the first time but armed with everything they’ve learned. Brady even invites Brie to Founder’s Day as their first official date. Their secret doesn't last long, though, as Mel and Jack accidentally walk in on them, leading to a very happy ‘hard launch’ of their rekindled romance.

But the writers simply couldn't let Brady be happy. As the episode winds down into its final montage, showing Marley giving birth, Preacher hovering over a buyout agreement for Jack's Bar, and Hope crying in Roland's arms, disaster strikes. Brady, riding his motorbike on the way to cook dinner for Brie, crashes into an unexpected construction site.

The credits roll with his fate completely up in the air. Is Brady dead? Given how much fans love him and Brie together, it’s highly unlikely the programme would kill off such a crucial character. It’s far more likely this is just another classic obstacle the couple will have to overcome when Season 8 rolls around.
