Pankaj Tripathi, the actor who gained recognition with his role in Gangs of Wasseypur, has created a niche for himself by doing some brilliant roles in films like Fukrey, Newton, Masaan and Bareilly Ki Barfi, among others, which have helped him make his mark in Bollywood.

He has also become popular through OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video with his television series Mirzapur, Netflix with Sacred Games, and Disney Plus Hotstar’s Criminal Justice.

However, he has barely worked outside the Hindi film industry, despite playing an uncredited role in the Kannada film Chigurida Kanasu and a small role in the Hollywood film Extraction.

Tripathi recently explained the reason behind him not working in Hollywood or regional projects. First, because he is too busy with Hindi projects, and secondly, he believes it would be tough for him to bring emotion to any other language besides Hindi.

‘I am comfortable with Hindi’

Speaking at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, the star said that he would be willing to do a regional movie if somebody writes a Hindi-speaking part for him.

Saying that he prefers Hindi cinema, Tripathi notes, “It’s because I am comfortable with Hindi, main uss language ko samajhta hoon, uski bhavnao ko, nuances ko behtar samajhta hoon (I understand Hindi better, I understand its emotions and nuances better).

He added that forget Hollywood, he also gets offers from Telugu and Malayalam filmmakers, but he feels he would not be able to do justice to those films because he does not speak those languages.

The actor said it would be difficult to “bring out the feeling” in any other language. But if someone can write a Hindi-speaking role for him, he is open to working in any language film.

On the workfront, Tripathi was last seen in the film Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, which received mixed reviews. The third film of the Fukrey franchise and the third season of Mirzapur are hugely awaited by his fans. Recently, it was announced that the actor would play the role of India's ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in a biopic titled Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon Yeh Desh Rehna Chahiye – Atal.
