UP Woman Accuses In-Laws Of Injecting Her With HIV-Infected Syringe
A man from Uttar Pradesh has accused his daughter’s in-laws of forcibly injecting her with an HIV-infected needle after she was unable to meet their excessive dowry demands. As per the Station House Officer (SHO) Rojant Tyagi, the woman's father informed the police that his daughter, Sonal, had married Abhishek from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on February 15, 2023. The father mentioned that he had given cash, jewellery, and a car as dowry, but despite this, the in-laws were unhappy and demanded a larger car and an additional ₹25 lakh.
"We provided a sub-compact SUV along with ₹15 lakh in cash to the groom's family," the woman's father stated before the court, as quoted in a Times of India report.

When these demands were not fulfilled, Abhishek's family allegedly subjected Sonal to both mental and physical abuse before ultimately throwing her out of their home.
Sonal’s parents further accused the in-laws of administering "random medicines" and injecting her with an HIV-infected syringe. "When her health deteriorated, we took her to the hospital, where it was confirmed that she was HIV positive," the complaint from Sonal’s parents stated, according to Hindustan Times.
He mentioned that medical tests confirmed his daughter was HIV-positive, whereas her husband tested negative. According to the report, the victim's father claimed that both the police and the SSP dismissed their complaint, which led the family to pursue legal action through the court.
A case has been filed against four individuals, including Sonal's husband Abhishek and her brother-in-law, under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions from the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act’ and the ‘Dowry Prohibition Act.’
