The case has raised serious concerns regarding the emotional and psychological trauma that can be caused by such situations. UP Woman Faces Murder Charges After Killing Neighbour Over Alleged Blackmail
According to the woman’s statement to the police, she became acquainted with Iqbal, a Zari Zardosi artisan, after he began visiting her village for work. Iqbal, who worked on intricate embroidery and design work, frequently visited homes in the area, including hers. Over time, they exchanged contact details and began speaking regularly over the phone.
As the conversations progressed, the woman claimed Iqbal began making inappropriate advances. One day, he allegedly forced her into a sexual encounter at his residence. She immediately tried to warn him that she would inform her husband about the incident, but according to her, Iqbal threatened her, saying he had recordings of their conversations. He allegedly told her that he would destroy her home by revealing these recordings if she told anyone.
According to a police statement she said, “I have little children, so I endured this. He blackmailed into getting physical with him multiple times. I was tired of this. On Wednesday, Iqbal went to drop his wife at her parents' home. I spoke to him while he was on his way back and told him I wanted to meet.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Northern) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said, “On February 1, his wife Shahnaz, filed a murder case accusing their neighbour of the crime. She revealed that Iqbal had been blackmailing her with recorded phone calls and had allegedly raped her on multiple occasions. Unable to bear the harassment any longer, she planned his murder.”
He further shared that, “Iqbal allegedly gave her two sedative pills, instructing her to mix them in her husband's tea, which she did at 8 pm, rendering him unconscious. Around 11:40 pm, she went to Iqbal's house, where he initiated physical relations. Taking advantage of the situation, she wrapped her hands around his neck and strangled him to death. She then dragged his body to the stairs, left the house, and returned home.”
Investigation And Legal Charges
“The 35-year-old accused was arrested on February 2, 2025, and has been charged with murder”, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Northern) Mukesh Chandra Mishra. The authorities have indicated that they will examine all aspects of the case, including the woman’s claims of blackmail and the physical evidence surrounding Iqbal's death.
