Being in a romantic relationship is surely a very exciting thing to occur to us. However, not many people talk about the challenges you have to face as a couple to make the relationship flourish. A relationship is not only about talking, spending time together, and smiling; there are a lot of negative aspects that you need to encounter as well.
We talked to counselling psychology expert Atreyee Das who has suggested these few principles that you and your partner must keep in mind to make your relationship thrive.
Communication Is The Key
Even though it sounds very basic, communication is the most important thing to do. Even if it gets difficult, communicate about everything that goes in your mind, be it positive or negative. Your partner deserves to know every thought of yours about them. Instead of telling someone else, directly talk to them.
Avoid Piling Up
Piling up your emotions with the idea of either suppressing them or expressing them later is not a good idea at all. You must convey your emotions, no matter positive or negative, to your partner as soon as you can. However, make sure to cool down first and talk to them with a calm mind.
Privacy Over Secrecy
It is very important to keep your relationship (Tackle Common Relationship Problems) private. You must not disclose the details to anyone as it could hamper your bond with your partner. However, it is also important to keep others informed that you are committed to someone. As our expert says, “Secrecy isn't the key, privacy is.”

Be Mindful Of Their Boundaries
Atreyee Das says, “Just because the other person is your partner does not mean that there will exist no boundaries between the two of you.” It is important to remember that you two are complete individuals in a relationship and no one has the right to control you.
Respect Above All
Respect (What Is Consent?) is the most supreme thing to keep in your relationship. It is very important to respect your partner no matter which mood you are in. Even if you are angry, you have no right to disrespect the person in front of you. Make sure to keep the respect intact even more in front of others. Criticise them when you are alone.
