Born in Mumbai, Rekha was brought up in Lucknow and completed her education at Mumbai University. She married businessman Rakesh Jhunjunwala in 1987. The couple has two sons, Aryaman and Aryaveer, and a daughter, Nishtha.

While she has always maintained a low profile, her husband often talked about her whenever he interacted with the media. She is a joint owner in the stocks privately held by the couple.

The firm RARE has a name made by taking RA from Rakesh and RE from Rekha. In 2004, she became the director of Ohm Educom Foundation Private Limited.

In 2015, she was appointed the director of Jalaram Baba Children’s Nest Education Private Limited. In 2019, Rekha held the director’s office for Minosha Digital Solutions Private Limited. In 2021, she became the director of the RARE Family Foundation.

In 1985, Jhunjunwala started his portfolio with just ₹5,000 and grew it to ₹11,000 crores. He was among the most influential voices in the stock market.

His biggest investment was in Titan, which is estimated to be around ₹7,000 crores. Other stock holdings include big names like Indian Hotels, Rallis India, NCC, D B Reality, Jubilant Pharmova, Aptech, Prozone Intu Properties, Tata Communications, Federal Bank, Jubilant Ingrevia and Crisil.

He recently was in the news for shaking hands with the former IndiGo head Aditya Ghosh and ex-Jet Airways CEO Dube. They teamed up to launch a new airline called Akasa. It is supposed to begin its commercial operation in August with a domestic flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

For Rakesh, his wife and kids were everything. He used to call Rekha (richest businesswomen in India) his one and only client. Until June 2022, her net worth stood at ₹9,723.3 crore.
