These female sex educators are breaking taboos every day to make sex fun and women more aware of their bodies.

For centuries, sex has not only been a taboo subject but it has mostly been focused on men and their pleasure. Whether doctors, teachers, or mothers, no one talked to us about how sex could be fun and pleasurable.

In a world where a pharmacist wraps sanitary pads in layers of newspapers and black polythene, it is a sin for a woman to talk about something as normal as menstrual issues, let alone pleasure and masturbation.

However, female sexuality educators are changing the dynamic. Not only are they making women more aware of their bodies and sexuality, but they are using social media platforms to talk unabashedly about anything and everything related to women’s health and their sexualities.

This Independence day, we are talking about four women who are liberating women from taboos surrounding their health and pleasure.

Seema Anand

Seema Anand has openly talked about female pleasure on multiple occasions. From women watching porn to types of orgasms, everything a female body can possibly experience, she has left no stone unturned to speak about it and raise awareness.

While speaking about her book to the Free Press Journal, she said that oral sex is something that most Indian women have been deprived of. “While women don’t shy away from going down, most men skip the part,” she added.

One of her Instagram posts says, “Penetrate yourself before letting anyone else.” She extensively makes videos about how women can achieve pleasure, talk openly to their partners, and how men can help women climax. Anand is someone who is making sex not only pleasurable but also promotes consensual and safe intercourse.

Dr Tanaya Narendra

Popularly known as Dr Cuterus, Tanaya Narendra is a millennial doctor who has extensively talked about the HPV vaccine (among other things), which can prevent cervical cancer among women. She has covered the whole shebang on the topic.

Unlike many other gynaecologists, she is one of the few who openly talks about menstruation, cramps, PMS symptoms, and the different use of sanitary products. In one of the videos, she used a prop for a vagina to explain what to do when a menstrual cup gets stuck inside you.

Dr Cuterus also speaks about contraceptives and how women can use them judicially to exercise bodily autonomy. She also promotes healthy body image, and often talks about uneven sizes and shapes of breasts, and has time and again debunked myths around hymen and virginity.

Pallavi Barnwal

Pallavi Barnwal is a sexuality and relationship coach. She makes people aware of how sex fits into the dynamics of any relationship. Her content revolves around making couples and women aware of the importance of achieving pleasure.

In a Times of India report, she said that she never knew techniques of pleasure despite studying at a reputed college. Now she breaks these taboos around intercourse every day.

She has spoken about how most sexless marriages arise from the fact that one of the partners thinks intercourse is dirty. However, she constantly works to make people aware that wanting to have sex or experiencing orgasms are fundamental desires of being humans.
