Indrani Mukerjea is a name that no Indian can forget if they were following Sheena Bora’s case, a 24-year-old woman went missing in April 2012 and was allegedly murdered. Indrani along with her then-husband Peter Mukerjea were accused of murdering Bora.

The case went on for years, and Indrani spent months in jail. She recently wrote a memoir, published by HarperCollins and available for buying at Crossword book stores and Amazon. The book was launched on July 30, 2023, and has been making quite a noise since then.

Though not explicitly, Indrani has talked about the case and how she was vindicated. Media trials already declared her to be the murderer and objectified her body.

‘My Life Crashed Unexpectedly,’ Said Indrani Mukerjea In Unbroken

Speaking about being accused of her daughter’s alleged murder, she said, "My life crashed, unexpectedly, one morning in 2015. I was accused of the most heinous crime there can be... My character was assassinated by people who did not know me. My chiffon sarees and body were the subjects of news. People who had never known me had a hot take on what I did and liked in life, and I was labelled a bad mother."

She added that in the dark cells of the jail, she fought every lie that was ever told about her. She did not let circumstances define her and emerged 'unbroken' after all odds against her. She also said that almost after eight years there are no shreds of evidence against her.

Sheena Bora’s Case

Sheena Das Bora took a leave of absence from her company on April 12, 2012, and sent her resignation. Rahul Mukerjea, who was her step-brother and partner, received a text telling him she was breaking up with him. It was reported that she was gone to study in the US, and hence, her family never filed a missing complaint. However, she was never seen post-April 12, 2012.

Rahul insisted the police to trace Sheena Bora. When they visited Indrani’s place, she told them that since Rahul was stalking her, she sent her daughter to the US. A few months before her arrest, the police started surveillance on her. Peter and Indrani’s driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, said that she planned the murder and even surveyed the area a day before dumping her body. Sanjeev Khanna and Peter Mukerjea confessed to the crimes they were accused of.
