Here Are The Holika Dahan 2020 Puja Timings & The Right Way To Do It

Holi is one festival which India celebrates with great zest. Colours, water and gujiyas and pakoras are synonymous with this festival. One more thing that is crucial to religious Hindus is the Holika Dahan puja which takes place a day before the festival of colours. This time Holika Dahan is on March 9 since Holi 2020 is on March 10. Here is the right timings for the puja along with the right steps that need to be taken during the ritual.

Today is also known as Chhoti Holi and it is said that we can overcome all fears by performing the Holika Puja. The main ingredients we need for the puja include rice, beads, coconut, water, cow dung, moong, raw cotton thread and incense sticks. Many use the water of river Ganga for the puja. It is said that if you perform the puja at the right time then only you will get the blessings of the Gods as otherwise it is considered inauspicious.

Keep al the ingredients ready in a thali and the one doing the puja should make sure that he or she sits facing the north or the east direction. Chant the mantras while offering the ingredients.

Tie five to seven rounds of the cotton yarn to the bonfire or hawan vessel and once you are done with the puja, seek blessings of your elders and Lord Vishnu.

You can perform the puja at any location and place an image of Holika and Prahlad on the huge pile of woods. The image of Holika is supposed to be flammable while Prahlad's image should be made of non-flammable material.

Set the pile of wood on fire at the right time and chant Rakshoghna Mantras of the Rig Veda to cast away the evil spirits. The next morning, collect the leftover ashes which are considered holy and as per rituals, it is smeared on one's limbs. This is an act of purification.

The auspicious timings or the shubh muhurat this year is said to be between evening 6:22 pm and 8:49 pm. The Purnima tithi will start at 3:03 am and end at 11:17 pm today. so perform accordingly!
