One thing that every hostel student carries with themselves is, electric kettle. Right from boiling water to cooking interesting dishes, this appliance has been helping hoteliers since ages. Without further ado, we bring to you some quick and easy kettle recipes which will be prepared in minutes and can be cooked in the comfort of your room.

Pasta

Who doesn’t love scrumptious pasta dishes? Well, you can have it anytime anywhere with just the help of a kettle. Start by boiling some water in your kettle and add your pasta to it. Add a pinch of water and let it simmer. After 8-10 minutes, strain your pasta when it is well-boiled. Now, put a cube of butter in your kettle and add your chopped veggies in it. Vegetables like onion, capsicum and sweet corn can be added. Now add tomato puree in it. Stir it for 3-4 minutes and add your boiled pasta to it. You can top it with oregano, chili flakes and cheese. This easy recipe will help in satiating your cravings in minutes.

Eggs

Be it boiled eggs, sunny-side up or scrambled eggs, you need not require a pan all the time to cook these dishes. Grab a kettle, your eggs, some salt and you are good to go. Warm up your kettle a bit and crack open your egg in it. Scramble it a bit and let it cook. If you want to prepare sunny-side up, you can switch off your kettle after 3-4 minutes and let it cook it with the lid closed.

Vegetable Maggi

Maggi is probably the most famous recipe that hostelers have been using since years together. Be it your 2 AM craving or evening snacking option, Maggi recipes have always been there at your disposal. In order to give your Maggi a healthy twist, you can experiment by adding some veggies to it. Once your maggi is cooked, take your kettle again and add some butter to it and add your diced veggies. You can also add oregano, chilli flakes or other tastemaker powders to give your Maggi a customised touch.

Another quick recipe, which can be made in minutes is poha. You can either use the instant mixes or cook poha on your own. If you have the instant mix packet, all you need to do is boil some water in your kettle and add poha mix in it. Keep the lid closed for 3-4 minutes and you have a delicious bowl of poha ready for you. You can also cook poha the traditional way. Soak some poha in water and drain it instantly. Keep it aside for a while. Now take your kettle and add some butter to it. You can add onion, peas or any other vegetable to it. Add salt, pepper and chilli powder. Add your drained poha and mix. Don’t forget to add some roasted groundnut and lemon to give your poha the perfect taste.

Sweet Corn

Some boiled corn, topped with some chili powder, chat masala and lemon; just the thought of it is enough to make one drool. Just cut your corn cob into 2-3 pieces and put in the kettle. Add 1-2 cups of water and let it boil. After about 10 minutes, take out your corn cobs and separate the kernels from it. Transfer the corn to a bowl and add chat masala along with other seasonings of your choice. Don’t forget to top it off with lemon juice and coriander to enhance its flavour.
