Lalu Prasad Yadav & Rahul Gandhi Cook Up A Storm, Check The Delish Champaran Mutton Recipe

It was quite a moment as Rahul Gandhi and veteran politician Lalu Prasad Yadav joined forces to cook up the hot and steaming ‘Champaran Mutton’ recipe.

Against what can be imagined as the usual standards for all the cooking and culinary content, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader, Lalu Prasad Yadav made heads turn as they met, exchanged greetings and then started cooking up this one pot meat dish.

The recipe is one of a kind and signature from the Bihar region of India. Such is the popularity of the dish that it is only second to the ‘litti chokha’ from the state. There are a million recipes and ways in which the iconic dish can be made with different measurements of oil, onion, ‘khada masala’ , garlic bulbs, mustard oil and more.

DIY Recipe How To Make The Champaran Mutton:

  • First, marinate the mutton in ¾ cup of mustard oil and all the ingredients.
  • Next, keep it aside and let it sit for twenty minutes.
  • Next, take a big pot, it could be an earthen pot or a heavy bottom metal saucepan.
  • Now add the remaining oil and the marinated mutton in the pot and put the lid over it and seal the edges with wheat dough.
  • Let the meat cook at a low heat and then gradually increase the intensity to medium and allow the mutton to cook for 45-50 minutes.
  • Next, remove the dough and seal after nearly 45 minutes.
  • Check if the mutton is tenderly cooked and that the oil has risen to the top of the dish.
  • Garnish the dish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapatis.

Ingredients

  • 1 kilogram mutton
  • 750 gram sliced onion
  • 2-3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 6 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoon degi mirch
  • 2 tablespoon Kashmiri mirch
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 150 gram yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon fennel powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 10 cloves
  • 8 black peppercorn
  • 2 inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • wheat dough to seal the vessel
  • salt to taste

Step

  1. Step 1:

    Check if the mutton is cooked until tender.

  6. Step 6:

    Garnish the dish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
