How To Make Chana Dal Puri:

Chana Dal Puri

1. First soak the chana dal in water for at least 1 hour, or overnight.

2. Now drain the chana dal and grind it to a smooth paste in a blender. 

3. Add whole wheat flour, semolina, coriander, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, oil, and salt to the chana dal paste. Mix well to form a soft dough.

4. Now divide the dough into equal-sized balls and roll them into small puris.

5. In a medium frying pan heat some oil at medium heat for the puris. 

6. Gently drop the puris into the hot oil and fry them on medium-high heat until they are golden brown and crispy. Repeat the process with all the puris.

7. Drain the puris on tissue paper. 

8. Serve these hot in the Karwa Chauth thali with the rest of the sargi items. 

Tips:

  • If the dough is too dry, add a little water as needed.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying the puris, as this will lower the temperature of the oil and make the puris soggy.
  • Serve the puris immediately, as they will become soft if left to cool.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 1/2 cup semolina (rava / sooji)
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep-frying

    Now in a frying pan heat some oil and fry the puris at medium heat.

    Serve these hot with sabji.
