As they say you can take a Madrasi out of Chennai but you cannot keep him apart from his favourite filter kaapi. Coffee has become a new age culture and almost a social experience more than just a drink. That being said, it is not that coffee drinking is a contemporary phenomenon in our country. In fact, it is one of the most age old drinks brought to the Indian landmass by the colonial masters and its legacy got adapted by the local populace and stayed on.
A lot of people make a fuss over their daily cup of black coffee, latte or cappuccino. To all of them we say, “you probably haven’t had the taste of a good old South Indian filter kaapi.”
For the unversed, filter kaapi or filter coffee is served straight out of a stainless steel tumbler and smells robust and strong enough to make you start your day with zest and herculean energy.
This iconic beverage originating out of Chennai has been a fan favourite since ages and has been flowing strong in every Madrasi’s veins. It has won battles against all sorts of coffees and has proven that it is the clear winner within a world full of coffee shop or store bought variants.
