Presenting ‘The Sabarmati Report’, in cinemas on May 3, 2024.”

The teaser places significant emphasis on Vikrant's character facing scrutiny for speaking Hindi, but later being allowed to proceed with the news. This tragic incident saw the loss of 59 pilgrims and karsevaks who were returning from Ayodhya, as protestors set the train ablaze at the Godhra station. The repercussions of this event triggered the infamous 2002 Gujarat riots.

Originating from Muzaffarpur and en route to Ahmedabad, the Sabarmati Express carried over 2,000 kar sevaks who had attended the Purnahuti Maha Yagna, organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) as part of the Ram Temple building programme.

The train burning incident swiftly led to violent riots that erupted across the state within hours. Commencing on the evening of February 27, these riots persisted for 2-3 months, leaving a profound impact on Gujarat.

According to a report by Genocide Watch, the trials related to the Sabarmati Express incident commenced more than eight years after the event, starting on June 1, 2009. Following these proceedings, a special SIT court handed down convictions on March 1, 2011. Out of the 31 individuals convicted, 11 received death sentences, while 20 were sentenced to life imprisonment.
