What is more comforting than watching a movie that resonates with your real life? The Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Piku’ is one such movie that acts like a hot bag on your sore muscles. Shoojit Sircar created this Bollywood masterpiece with extreme love, care, and a relatable storyline that would appeal to us all in some way or the other. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan in significant roles.
On the surface, ‘Piku’ is often seen as a family comedy-drama where the old father in his seventies is struggling with gastric and digestive problems while his daughter in her thirties has to take care of him, it is much more profound. The heartfelt theme music and songs by Anupam Roy surely add a touch of modern Bengali culture to the movie.
Comforting Father-Daughter Bond
‘Piku’ is known best for the beautiful father-daughter relationship portrayed on Sircar’s canvas by Deepika Padukone (Piku) and Amitabh Bachchan (Bhaskar). In a world where most children abandon their parents, Piku chooses to stay with her widower father and care for him despite his crankiness and hilarious gastric issues.
Hyper-Independence And Modern Feminism
‘Piku’ is the epitome of what feminism must look like. Despite living with her father and caring for him, Piku is a feminist icon who thrives and runs an architecture firm with a friend. Her independent and bold attitude has a lot to do with how Bhaskar ensures that she never settles for anyone inferior to her who would snatch away her independence.

Hilarious Faulty Family Dynamics
While Bhaskar and Piku have presented a beautiful on-screen father-daughter chemistry, they did not forget to add a pinch of the faulty Indian family dynamics in the equation. Inspired by reality, they argue, Bhaskar dominates Piku, and due to loneliness, he refrains from getting her married off.
Captivating Chemistries
It is extremely rare to see an on-screen chemistry between two people without a rigid romantic storyline looking perfect for each other. Piku and Rana (Irrfan Khan) had an irrefutable chemistry despite their major age gap of almost 20 years. Piku was a difficult woman to deal with due to her hyper-independence while Rana was patient and wise, which made the two a perfect match.
