The reunion of Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj in ‘O'Romeo’ promised intensity, romance and moral chaos, and the film delivers all three in its blood-soaked final act. A heady mix of passion and revenge, the thriller leaves viewers with one big question: who actually survives the carnage?

O'Romeo Ending Explained: Did Jalal Murder Ustara?

Jalal and Ustara did not kill each other; instead, they had a different climax. Inspector Pathare shoots and stabs Ustara's neck and pushes him off a running train. When Pathare believes Ustara is dead, Ustara survives. After a few months, he heals his wound and travels to Spain, where he learns that Afsha is held. He barges into Jalal's life with ease by killing his men, and he finally reaches Jalal to face him in a mock bullfight ring in a confrontation. Here, he finally understands betrayal when he lets Afsha avenge his brother's death with Ustara's help. Jalal dies here; Ustara does not kill him.

O'Romeo Ending Explained: Did Ustara Die in the Film?

Despite being shot in the neck and thrown off a train in a seemingly fatal plunge, Ustara survives.

The writers intentionally make the audience believe he has met his end midway through the movie, as does Afsha, who continues her revenge mission alone in Spain.

However, Ustara's survival is what marks him as a man who refuses to die before completing his task and, ultimately, setting things right in his own twisted way. By the end of the film, he is alive and with Afsha.

O'Romeo Ending Explained: What Happened to Afsha at the End of the Film?

Like Ustara, Afsha also survives the events of ‘O'Romeo’.

After gruesomely killing Inspector Pathare with the eerie permission of Jalal himself, Afsha spends three months in jail, but not even prison can break her will.

When Ustara finally makes his way to Spain, they reunite and carry out the final act of vengeance against Jalal.

In the final time-lapsed sequence, we see Afsha and Ustara back in Mumbai, apparently having found peace with each other.

O'Romeo Ending Explained: Rabia Twist Explained

One of the most significant plot twists comes with the revelation of Rabia's (Tamannaah Bhatia) role in the story.

It is eventually revealed in a flashback sequence that Rabia, not Ustara, was the one who killed Jalal's younger brother. Pregnant with Jalal's child at the time, she committed the act after discovering that Jalal was working for the ISI and had made plans for a terrorist attack on Mumbai. Her world was shattered, and the shock induced a miscarriage. Ustara, who knew of Rabia's actions, took the blame to protect her.

When Jalal finally learns of Rabia's betrayal, he beheads her, and his violent act marks the ultimate end of his humanity and essentially seals his own fate.

Ending Explained: Who Lived and Who Died in O'Romeo?

‘O'Romeo's’ ending is not a tragedy in the traditional sense, but a twisted victory for the protagonists. While Jalal and Rabia meet their grisly ends, both Ustara and Afsha survive.

The film ends on a dark, romantic note, one where love ultimately conquers all, and the guilty are punished in a spectacular display of vengeful justice.
