Kangana Ranaut's highly anticipated movie, Emergency, has been postponed from its original release date of September 6, 2024, due to ongoing controversies and delays in obtaining certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, which marks Ranaut's directorial debut, is encountering multiple hurdles before its release.
Reasons Why Kangana Ranaut's Emergency Delayed
Delays in the Certification Process Due to Sensitive Content
Sources also reveal that the CBFC has not yet issued a show-cause notice, and potential modifications could impact the release timing of the film's international versions. Certification is expected to take longer as the film features sensitive scenes related to the Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977.
CBFC Proposes Edits, Certification Still Pending
Centre has told the Punjab & Haryana High Court that before certifying Kangana Ranaut's film #Emergency, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) "shall take care, that contents of the said movie do not hurt the sentiments of any community, including #Sikh community." pic.twitter.com/8mW6Q6dzkt

Although the CBFC has recommended various edits, the film's certification remains pending. This may result in a delay of Emergency's release by up to a week, as the board has yet to make a decision regarding the content.
On Friday, Kangana expressed frustration on Twitter, alleging that despite reports of the film receiving its censor certificate, the entire process was stalled due to threats made towards CBFC members. She also claimed that there was pressure on the filmmakers to remove the scene depicting Indira Gandhi's assassination and avoid portraying the riots in Punjab.

Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale - Controversy

The controversy started with the release of the film's trailer, which showed Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the most polarising figure associated with the Khalistan movement. It immediately invited legal action from the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, apart from frantic objections from Sikh organisations such as the Akal Takht and the SGPC.
Additional Solicitor General Satyapal Jain, appearing for the Centre, told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the CBFC would take into consideration the sentiments of all communities, including the Sikh community. The court is hearing a petition filed by residents of Mohali regarding the certification given to the film.
Notwithstanding the delays and controversies associated with the Emergency, Kangana Ranaut is firmly driven to get the film out at the first possible chance.
The actress, known for her blunt remarks, recently shared her views on marriage in an episode of "Aap Ki Adalat." Ranaut humorously replied to questions regarding how her recent legal battles have affected her personal life - particularly about her chances at matrimony - and shared a funny incident of how her to-be in-laws once "ran away" after she received a summons from the police.

The delay in its release has managed to raise expectations among fans about the film, who hope that the CBFC will grant the needed clearance soon.
