Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ hits cinemas today for paid previews, carrying the massive weight of box office expectations following the first film's record-breaking run. But right before fans bought their tickets, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) report leaked online. The document gives us a clear look at exactly what the censors forced the director to change before letting the film into Indian theatres.

Aditya Dhar’s latest action drama scored an 'A' certificate a day before its March 18, 2026, premiere, but only after the editing team chopped one minute and 34 seconds of footage.

The board handed down 21 specific changes, and they clearly weren't messing around when it came to the violence. The most obvious edits involved toning down the sheer brutality of the action scenes. The CBFC ordered the makers to trim visuals of characters getting bashed with hammers and cement blocks. The editing team also had to force cuts on a beheading sequence, some heavy kicking, and a particularly intense eye-smashing scene.

It wasn't just the blood that caught the board's attention. The censors cracked down on the dialogue, making the team mute or completely swap out several abusive words (though the certificate doesn't name the specific words). To cover their bases, the board also made the studio insert a brand new opening slate. This slide explicitly warns viewers about ‘disturbing content’ and advises discretion, appearing alongside the usual static text warnings you see during scenes involving drugs.

Dhurandhar 2 Technical Adjustments and Real-World References

The post-production crew had plenty of cleanup to do beyond the action scenes. They had to fix the dates of demonetisation shown in the English subtitles. In one of the on-screen text graphics, they were instructed to replace the word 'Lahore' with 'Delhi'.

Director Aditya Dhar and his team also had to prove they had the legal right to use certain real-world elements. They submitted official permission letters to the censor board to keep references to the Prime Minister and actual news footage in the final cut. On top of that, they synced the subtitles to match the spoken dialogue properly, added Hindi text to introduce the film's various chapters, and sliced a full minute off the end credits. They even provided an Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) certificate to clear the scenes showing animals.

Dhurandhar 2 Runtime and Box Office Predictions

Even after the censors took their scissors to it, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is a massive undertaking. The final runtime sits at a hefty three hours and 49 minutes, making it 14 minutes longer than the first instalment.

These last-minute edits haven't hurt ticket sales one bit. The film is tearing through advance bookings, nearing Rs 150 crore in global pre-sales just for the premiere and opening day shows. With the Eid holiday weekend coming up, industry insiders expect those numbers to shoot even higher.

The sequel properly opens on March 19, 2026, in five different languages. It brings back a huge cast, throwing R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun into the mix alongside Singh. The big hook for fans this time around? Watching Ranveer’s character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, completely transform into Hamza Ali Mazari.
