‘Crime 101’, directed by Bart Layton, opened in cinemas in the USA and India on February 13, 2026. The crime thriller is an adaptation of the 2020 novella of the same name written by Don Winslow. ‘Crime 101’ focuses on a notorious, phantom diamond thief in California on Route 101, who adheres strictly to his own set of rules, dubbed ‘Crime 101.’
In the movie, Chris Hemsworth plays the determined criminal Mike Davis, orchestrating his last major heist: $5.5 million worth of diamonds. LAPD detective Lou Lubesnick, the cool and yet messy agent, is played by Mark Ruffalo. Insurance broker Sharon Combs enters the story of Mike Davis and is played by Halle Berry. Rounding out the cast, Barry Keoghan stars as Ormon, the wild and unpredictable biker, and Mike's love interest is Maya, who is played by Monica Barbaro.

As soon as early screenings ended, Twitter filled with divided opinions.
Brandon Siedlik (@BrandonSiedlik) wrote, “It could be the result of a late night unplanned triple feature, but I thought #Crime101 was horribly mediocre. This feels like a throwaway Netflix movie that somehow snuck its way into theaters. The cast is really putting in the work, but thrilling scenes are scarce.”

George Clark (@GeorgeAlexClark) offered a more balanced take, “So #Crime101 is long. Far too long for its own good…but it’s still a very solid film. Hemsworth, Berry and Ruffalo are superb, and Keoghan and Barbaro are scene stealers. It’s very ‘by the numbers’, plot points hit, no major twists, it’s just a solid, slick, crime thriller. 👍”

Doug Jones (@Capri__Son) did not hold back, “#Crime101 commits a pretty big crime itself by being a massive disappointment. Way too long & extremely derivative. It so badly wants to be a Michael Mann film. Ensemble cast looks bored with little to no chemistry. Halle Berry, the score & cinematography are the saving graces.”

Plot Thicc (@PlotThicc) shared, “#crime101 was such an intense thrill ride -- it's a well-written throwback to 90s heist thrillers with a satisfying ending altho, one of the motorcycle chase scenes was edited very sloppily other than that, it's very entertaining see it with an audience this wkd”

DanielsCaliforniaAdventure (@DanielJospehBar) praised it enthusiastically, “#crime101 is the best crime drama this era. W/ rich source from its novel, it unfolds like a page turner! It’s elevated w/ “movie stars” Hemsworth, Barry, Ruffalo. The ensemble cast is filled w/ veteran actors & newcomers. Its reminiscent of Micheal Mann’s HEAT. & it’s based in LA”

From complaints about its lengthy runtime to praise for its performances and nostalgic '90s vibe, ‘Crime 101’ clearly splits opinion. While some viewers expected a sharper, more original thriller, others appreciate its steady storytelling and star power.
