Four Indian women have made it to the annual list of Forbes World’s Most Powerful Women for 2023, making India proud. These women have shattered the barriers and become an inspiration for the Indian women who are struggling to make their mark in the world. Forbes uses four metrics to determine the rank of these women which include money, media, impact and spheres of influence. Amidst the world celebrating the achievement of these four Indian women, they stand as a powerful symbol of leadership, resilience and the global arena.

Nirmala Sitharaman

64-year-old, Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman is ranked 32 on the list among 100 women. She is one of the senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party who has been serving as India’s Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs since 2019. Earlier she served as the 28th Defence Minister of India from 2017 to 2019, making her the second female defence minister after Indira Gandhi. It’s not the first time that Nirmala Sitharaman has made it to the Forbes Powerful Women list. In 2022, she ranked 36th position in the same list.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra

42-year-old Roshni Nadar Malhotra is an Indian (india's first woman female airport fighter) billionaire and philanthropist, who is ranked 60th on the Forbes list. She is currently serving as the Chairperson of HCL Technologies. She made history by being the first woman to lead a listed IT company in India. Being the only child of Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, she is the richest woman in India, according to IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List of 2019. Roshni has consistently been ranked in Forbes's powerful women list since 2019.

Soma Mondal

The chairperson of the Steel Authority of India, Soma Mondal is making history by being the first woman (india's first female investigator) to be in this role since 2021. Born and brought up in Bhubaneshwar, Soma Mondal has 35 years of experience in the metal industry. She founded NALCO and rose to become Director. Apart from her corporate achievements, Soma holds the position of Chairperson of SCOPE. Forbes has ranked her 70th on the list.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw

The founder of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited in Bangalore, India, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is a prominent Indian billionaire entrepreneur. This 70-year-old lady has received several accolades for her contribution to science and Chemistry. She was earlier featured on the Financial Times’ Top 50 Women in Business list in 2011. Now Forbes has recognised her as the 76th powerful woman in the world.
