It won’t be wrong to quote that Diya Kumari is the princess of Jaipur. She is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruler of the princely state of Jaipur, who chose to step into politics in 2013 by joining the BJP. It’s been a decade since she has been active in politics but never came up as a big name. Now that the BJP has won elections in Rajasthan, she is going to be appointed the new deputy Chief Minister. Who Is Diya Kumari?
Diya Kumari is the granddaughter of Man Singh II, the last ruler of the princely state of Jaipur. Undoubtedly, she has lived a royal life since childhood. Following the footsteps of her grandmother Rajmata Gayatri Devi, Diya Kumari entered politics in the year 2013. She won over Kirodi Lal Meena in the Rajasthan Assembly elections from the Sawai Madhopur constituency. Her down-to-earth personality combined with regal ancestry has made her a popular name in Rajasthan.
Diya Kumari’s Political Career
After the 2013 win, Diya Kumari was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2019, from Rajasthan’s Rajasmand constituency, with a huge victory of 5,51,916 votes. Diya Kumari advocates for the environment, education, healthcare and women’s empowerment (india's first hijabi infleuncer)which has gained her political clout. The 52-year-old politician was elected to the government's National Tiger Conservation Commission. In the 2023 elections, she campaigned as a daughter of Jaipur and a princess who walks into the streets. With a modern-day businesswoman attitude she heads numerous business ventures, hotels, NGOs, schools and museums.
Diya Kumari’s Education
Born and brought up in Jaipur, Diya has completed her education in Jaipur, Delhi (india's first female investigator) and London. She attended Modern School in New Delhi, G.D. Somani Memorial School, in Mumbai and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls Public School in Jaipur. Further, she went to Chelsea School of Arts, London in 1989 for her graduation in Fine Arts and received an Hon. Doctorate in Philosophy from Amity University, Jaipur.
Diya Kumari’s Married Life
Her marriage life has been a controversy as she chose to marry a commoner. She married Narendra Singh Rajawat. Being the only child her family never accepted her marriage and thus she got married in 1997 without her parent’s permission. However, her marriage turned into a divorce in 2018. She has two sons and one daughter.
