Nandita Gorlosa resigned from the BJP because her ticket was denied by the party for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections from Haflong (ST).

BJP replaced Nandita with the newcomer Rupali Langthasa to contest in the upcoming elections scheduled on April 9, 2026. Chief Minister Himanta stated that 19 sitting MLAs have been replaced based on delimitation and performance just a day before nominations.

Nandita submitted a formal resignation letter to Assam BJP President Dilip Saika, mentioning, 'I am writing to formally submit my resignation from the primary membership of BJP with immediate effect. In view of the above, I request you to relieve me of my responsibilities with immediate effect. I appreciate the opportunities I have had to serve the people and the party, and I would like to thank you for your support during my tenure.'

Why Congress Appointed Nandita Gorlosa As Its Candidate?

INC reportedly appointed Nnadita Gorlosa as its candidate for the Haflong (ST) constituency. Congress leader Jitendra Singh Alwar welcomed Nandita Gorlosa, stating on his X (formerly Twitter), 'Those who truly want to protect Assam and make it prosperous are standing with Congress. We are pleased to welcome Nandita Gorlosa (Cabinet Minister of Assam) into the Congress family. For the past five years, she has been a strong voice of Dima Hasao, consistently standing firm on her beliefs and principles, even at personal and political cost.

He further mentioned, ' She will be declared as the Congress candidate from the Haflong constituency.'

Nandita Gorlosa Net Worth And Personal Background

Nandita hails from Haflong, Dima Hasao district. Born on May 13, 1977, she completed her master's in Zoology from Cotton College, Guwahati. As per the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) 2024 analysis, she was declared among the 10 poorest ministers in India with total assets of approximately ₹5 lakh.
