Apple iPhone Fold: Launch Date, Specifications, Design, Cameras, and More

The rumours of Apple’s foldable iPhone have reached a fever pitch, with new rumours attempting to outline what the future may hold for the tech giant’s new device. Apple has yet to announce a foldable iPhone, but rumours are circulating that the ‘iPhone Fold’ may be one of the biggest changes to the company’s hardware lineup in years.

Here’s a closer look at the rumours that have been circulating:

iPhone Fold Launch Date (Expected)

Speculation still suggests a launch window in late 2026 or beyond, although no concrete date has been set. Apple typically launches significant hardware design changes in September, but whether a foldable would fall within the typical iPhone release cycle is unclear. Some analysts believe Apple could choose to market a foldable as a niche product rather than a direct upgrade to the standard iPhone line.

iPhone Fold Design

One of the most popular rumours is what will happen to the buttons. There are reports that the volume buttons might not be located on the left side and move to the top-right corner, similar to the iPad mini.

The power button, rumoured to be accompanied by Touch ID, is rumoured to remain on the right side. There are also rumours of an AI or camera button next to the power button.

As per several reports, Apple plans to place the motherboard on the right side of the foldable device. This would allow the folding screen to remain wire-free, creating space for a larger battery on the left side. Such a design could result in the largest battery ever used in an iPhone-like foldable device.

iPhone Fold Display and Front Camera

Instead of a bulky cut-out for a camera, rumours point towards a single punch-hole front camera. This will result in a cleaner display area when the device is unfolded. There are also rumours that the foldable device may feature Touch ID instead of Face ID, making the sensor arrangement easier.

Regarding the hinge, rumours suggest that the folding mechanism may use an ‘extreme yet elegant’ internal stacking design. This design will be used to enhance durability and reduce creasing.

iPhone Fold Rear Cameras

As for the back, the leaks reveal a horizontal dual-camera system positioned along the right edge, a design that goes against Apple’s typical diagonal or vertical designs.

At this point, only a white colour option has appeared in some of the leaks, although additional colours are expected.

If all of this information comes to pass, the iPhone Fold could integrate Apple’s known design aesthetic with a new approach to interacting with it that’s more tablet-oriented. It could have some design similarities with the iPhone Air but incorporate design elements from smaller tablets.
