Apple is still months away from unveiling its next-generation of premium smartphones, yet rumours about the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are already circulating online. Early reports and industry leaks indicate several internal upgrades and subtle design refinements for the 2026 Pro models.
Apple has not officially confirmed any of these details. Even so, multiple reports point to potential changes in areas such as display technology, cameras, battery life and overall performance. If these leaks prove accurate, the upcoming devices could represent another significant step forward in Apple’s flagship lineup.
Here is a closer look at what the iPhone 18 Pro series may offer, based on current leaks and speculation.

One of the most talked-about rumours focuses on the front display. Reports say Apple may test placing the Face ID components beneath the screen. If that happens, the familiar Dynamic Island cutout seen on recent iPhones could disappear.
In that scenario, the front camera would likely appear as a small punch-hole near the top corner of the display. This change could make the screen look cleaner and provide a more uninterrupted viewing experience.
Despite this potential shift, the overall design language of the device will probably stay familiar. Apple is expected to retain a similar frame and body structure to what analysts anticipate for the previous-generation Pro models.
On the back, Apple is likely to keep the triple-camera module but may refine the finish of the rear glass panel. Some reports also claim the company could introduce new colour options, possibly including shades like deep purple, burgundy and a coffee-inspired brown.
The camera system may also receive notable upgrades. One rumour claims Apple could add a mechanical iris to one of the rear cameras, allowing the camera to adjust its aperture based on lighting conditions.
Right now, most iPhone cameras rely on fixed apertures and software-based adjustments. A variable aperture would give users more flexibility, especially when shooting in complex or tricky lighting situations.
Additionally, reports suggest Apple may adopt a three-layer stacked image sensor developed by Samsung. This type of sensor is designed to improve processing speed and reduce image noise. It can also help deliver better dynamic range, so photos retain more detail in both bright highlights and deep shadows.

Inside, Apple is expected to debut a new processor, widely rumoured to be the A20 Pro chip. Reports suggest the chip will use TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometre process, which could boost both performance and energy efficiency.
Apple may also rethink how it arranges internal components. According to leaks, the company could adopt Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging, a method that integrates RAM directly alongside the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine. This tighter integration may enable faster data transfer and free up additional internal space.

Battery life may become another major focus for the upcoming Pro models. Some reports say the iPhone 18 Pro Max could ship with a battery capacity exceeding 5,000mAh, possibly around 5,100mAh or higher.
If these claims hold true, the device could offer much longer usage times, with some predictions pointing to battery life of up to 40 hours under certain conditions. However, these estimates remain speculative until Apple officially reveals the device and shares real-world figures.
To make room for the larger battery, the Pro Max variant may end up slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessors.

Apple usually unveils its flagship iPhones during its annual autumn event. Following that pattern, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely debut around September 2026.
A few reports also suggest that the standard iPhone 18 might not launch alongside the Pro models and could instead arrive later, possibly in 2027.
