Not everyone practices mudras and considers it something associated with Indian classical dance only. This is where we go wrong! Mudras in fact enhance energy in the body and each mudra has different benefits. Mudras are often described as devotional, emotional, and psychic gestures. These hand gestures and movements are not difficult to practice but yield many benefits that will amaze you.

They can alter your mood, work on your concentration power and when combined with certain yoga asanas, they work like magic. However, you need to practice a lot.

Prana Mudra involves the connection of your thumb and ring finger and little finger. These denote fire, earth, and water, in the respective order.

How To Perform

  • Sit in a comfortable posture and relax.
  • Join the fingers but keep them straight and firm so that they are away from each other.
  • Breathe in a rhythm and place the hands over the knees.
  • Do it early morning preferably. If you plan on doing it in the afternoon or night, make sure you have had your food atleast 30 minutes before. Practice for 15 minutes each if you do it in 2-3 sittings but when you want to do it one go, it must last for atleast 30 minutes.
  • Meditate while performing this mudra as it increases the efficiency.

Limitations

There are no limitations to practice this mudra. There is no bar for any gender, age, pregnancy and it can be practiced even if you have some disease or ailment.
