Do’s And Don’ts Of Wearing Contact Lenses
Contact lenses started an era of no glasses but it is important to take necessary safety measures to prevent eye damage. Here are the do’s and don’ts that you should consider:
Hygiene Is Important
The eyes are the most sensitive part of our body and thus we can’t insert any foreign object without maintaining proper hygiene. Poor handling of the lens can lead to eye infection and cornea damage. Therefore, always sanitise your hands before putting on lenses and before removing them.
Dr Priyanka Singh said, “Contact lenses rest on a very sensitive part of our cornea. If any complication arises it affects the corneas leading to redness, unbearable pain, watering, redness, and inability to open eyes to light.”
Avoid Prolong Wear
Contact lenses might save you from wearing glasses but prolonged exposure to the same can lead to exacerbation of dry eyes. Also, wearing contact lenses for very long can lead to the development of papillae, allergic conjunctivitis, eyelid swelling, itching and redness in the eyes.
Never Sleep With Lenses On
Prolonged exposure to contact lenses and sleeping while putting them in can lead to irritation of the outer layer of the cornea, decrease in oxygen supply to the Cornea, and photophobia(inability to open eyes to light).

Keep The Lenses Clean
As was said before lenses rest on a very sensitive part of the cornea and thus it is important to clean them before wearing them. Otherwise, it can lead to abrasion or scratch in the cornea. Additionally, unclean contact lenses harbour bacteria and viruses, leading to severe corneal infections that may convert to corneal ulcers in a matter of a few hours.
