Cosmetic surgeries have become quite common these days. People are opting for it to enhance their physical attributes. Among many known cosmetic surgeries, breast augmentation is one of the most popular ones. However, with advancements in medical techniques, patients now face a choice between traditional breast implants and the increasingly popular method of breast fat grafting. We spoke with Delhi-based board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of RG Aesthetics, Dr Rajat Gupta for his opinions on the same. Read on to learn the difference between breast implants and breast fat grafting.
Difference Between Breast Implants And Breast Fat Grafting
According to Dr Gupta. "Breast implants involve placing a silicone or saline implant under the breast tissue or chest muscles," he said. On the other hand, breast fat grafting, also known as autologous fat transfer, involves taking fat from another part of the patient's body and injecting it into the breasts." he added.
What Is The Breast Implant Method?
Breast implants provide a more predictable and substantial increase in breast size and are a longstanding and well-studied procedure. Also, the specialized no-touch breast implant technique, known for its emphasis on safety and effectiveness, involves the use of an implant funnel to transfer the implant into the breast cavity. It avoids direct contact between the surgeon's hands and the implant. This method significantly reduces the risk of contamination and infection, leading to a safer surgical process. Additionally, the precision and minimal handling of the implant contribute to better surgical outcomes and a potentially faster recovery for patients, enhancing the overall success of the procedure.
What Is A Breast Grafting Method?
Breast fat grafting offers a more natural look and feel, as it uses the patient's body fat. It's a two-in-one procedure, as it involves liposuction (what is ischemic stroke) from areas like the abdomen or thighs, offering a contoured shape in these areas while using the same fat to enhance the breasts. There is another element that makes fat grafting successful. In the process of fat grafting for breast augmentation, the harvested fat undergoes a meticulous purification process. This step is crucial as it ensures only the healthiest and most viable fat cells are used, significantly enhancing the safety and effectiveness of the augmentation. By carefully preparing the fat this way, the risk of complications is minimized, leading to more reliable and satisfying results for patients. Dr Gupta cautions that fat grafting might not provide as significant an increase in size, and the body may reabsorb some of the fat over time.

Who Are The Ideal Candidates For Both Kinds Of Procedures?
When deciding between breast (is breast cancer genetic) implants and breast fat grafting, it is important to consider personal goals, body types, and physical attributes. Dr Gupta said, "For those desiring a significant change in breast size or who have little body fat available, implants are often the better choice. On the other hand, for individuals seeking a modest increase in breast size and a more natural result, fat grafting is advisable.”
