In yoga, there are total 84 asanas according to the ancient scriptures. As a common person we get confused which asana to be practiced. Today we will be discussing one of the best asanas which is loved by all. We can call it as best asana of 2019. The asana that we will be discussing is Shavasana or the corpse pose.Dr. Hansaji Jayadeva Yogendra – Director, The Yoga Institute, says that there is a common notion that Shavasana means going to sleep after one-hour long asana session. But factually speaking Shavasana is the asana which requires conscious relaxation. It not only needs to be done after the asana session but it works wonders when you are tired and you have a long day.
It is said that 10 min of proper Shavasana is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep. We need regular practice of this asana to master it. Shavasana has innumerable benefits and it can benefit a youngster, an adult, and a senior citizen in many different ways. In today’s world we all are stressed due to some or the other reason. A child has a competitive exam to crack, an adult has to face competition in office and maintain a good living and a senior citizen is stressed to cope up with the current generation. In all the above scenarios it is very important to keep your mind balanced and calm. Shavasana is the asana to be practiced in this time.

Shavasana calms your nervous and muscular system and thus eliminates any form of agitation in the body. Along with that it also helps to regulate the breath and it slows down. Due to slow and deep breathing, mind will remain composed. Your mind will become so balanced that you won't be affected by anything. Heat or cold, right or wrong, if someone is provoking then you will not get affected by it, you will never feel bad about any negative comments neither you will be extremely sensitive about anything.
How to do this asana?
- Lie down on your back on the mat.
- Stretch your legs out and relaxed and keep distance between them.
- Extended your hands on the sides slightly away from the body, eyes will remain closed.
- Just let go of your body towards the gravity.
- Focus either no the tip of the nose or simply observe your abdomen going up and down.
- Remain in this posture for about 5 to 10 min.
- If you have any thoughts just come back and regain your focus.
- Gently move your fingers, toes. Turn on the right side and stay there for 10 seconds
- Slowly sit up and open your eyes
If you are stressed while at work or when you are not at home, you can practice it anywhere. If you are travelling or in office, simply close your eyes and focus on your breathe for 5 to 10 min. If you are surrounded by too many noises then make that noise your point of focus and meditate on it for a while. This way the noise around you won't agitate you more and you can easily work upon the stressful situation. A person suffering from depression or any psychological problems should not do this asana.
