You can check out a wide variety of animals including: “sambar deer, Indian bison, Malabar giant squirrel, Indian peafowl and many species of snakes”, states Goa Forest Department’s official portal. The sanctuary is highly popular for family day trips and educational excursions due to its accessible layout and diverse facilities.

Bird lovers should not miss the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, which sits on Chorão Island along the Mandovi River. Goa Tourism portal highlights, “Apart from the feathered friends you’re bound to spot flying foxes, jackals and crocodiles. The sanctuary is crisscrossed by canals and hence movement is restricted to boats during the high tide.” Named after the famous ornithologist Dr Salim Ali, this sanctuary is made up of mangrove forests and wetlands that attract both people from across the country and migratory birds.

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is a quieter destination ideal for travellers who want to explore nature peacefully. Goa Forest Department mentions, “This region supports rich diversity of flora and fauna and notable among them are Leopard, Giant Squirrel, Mouse Deer, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon and Ceylon Frogmouth.” Nature lovers, trekkers, and birdwatchers often visit Netravali to enjoy its green surroundings, soothing ambience, and chance sightings of deer and other wildlife.
